Chiggers

How many of you have had chiggers? We worked out in the woods on Thur and I got 15 chigger bites. I must be allergic to them because some of them get as big as the palm of my hand. I tried everything and was up all night the first night. Even took a shower at three in the morning. They don't seem to bother dad, so I think I will let him work in the woods. Ofcourse they usually bite in the most interesting places!!!! today we got our first watermellon from the garden. It was good, just alittle immature, but very sweet. Have about 5-6 more to pick. Don't know if the corn will do anything. Planted silver queen, but think that must be a Floridian variety. Doesn't do too good here in TN. Everyone here plants bi-color corn. Will have to buy corn for the freezer. Day is making pickled watermellon rind. Smells good. Love you all Mom

We had a great visit with Jim and Lois. We seem to have many things in common and the time went so quickly. They left this morning since they have Sunday duties at their home church. Lois couldn't get over all the hummers we have out front. I make 4 cups of nector everyday. I bought little feeders and this picture shows me holding a feeder and hummers comming to it. They fly so close to us. Hope I can get one to sit on my hand. Someday perhaps. Jim killed a ground hog that kept popping his head up out in the field. It was a young one. Took them down to Fall Creek Falls and showed them Crossville. Wish they could have stayed longer. Thrilled to hear the good report from Carla. I know how happy she must be and we appreciate how Bill stood by her and was an encourgment to her as she went through all these treatments. Praise the Lord that all these treatments are over. Carla, you deserve more that a pink teashirt!! Let us know when you will be home. We'll have a celebration dinner ready for you and maybe let you win in cards. We love you all. Mom

City slickers

All of you city slickers,, eat you heart out. You can go to all the fancy resturants, but you can't beat eating you meals out of your freshley harvested garden. For the last week we have had our meals from the garden, green beans, squash, peas, potatoes, cabbage. Soon we will have corn. Don't everyone come at once!! We have put up 45 quarts of green beans and have picked about a gallan of blackberries. These are in the freezer and I will make blackberry jelly. Our limas are blooming and tomatoes are forming. We also have a watermellon ready to pick and canaloupes blooming. What a treat, but we have been working. Made blueberry and cherry jelly. As you notice the humming bird feeder. We have three and out front we can count about a dozen hummers fighting for the feeder. They are just thick. One time I filled the feeder and was putting it up on the hook and the hummers were eating while I held it in my hand. When we sit on the porch in the evening we are bombarded with these hummers. I make 4 cups of nectar everyday. Quite interesting. We are expecting Jim and Lois Rhodes to visit us for a few days on Thursday. That will be a treat. They are MMAPers and high school buddies. Have to get my house in shape for company. We will have to give them a tour of Crossville, They live in Shipshewana area, so you know the difference in locations. Will mow tomorrow if not raining.
